Our approach

What is different about Portuguese documents

Names are written exactly as on the document, with all surnames in the Brazilian or Portuguese order (maternal before paternal) and accents kept — João, Conceição, Araújo — unless you ask us to match a passport that drops them.

Registry formulas and offices are rendered the way US officers expect: «cartório» → “registry office”, «certidão» → “certificate”, «averbação» → “marginal annotation”, «reconhecimento de firma» → “signature authentication”, «tabelião» → “notary”, «matrícula» → “registration number” (kept exactly as printed).

Every carimbo, selo and apostille is described in brackets — [round seal: 2º Ofício de Registro Civil, Comarca de São Paulo] — so the translation mirrors the whole page, which USCIS requires. Security seals of Brazilian cartórios (selo digital) are reproduced with their code.

Dates in day-month-year order are converted to month-day-year with the month spelled out. Brazilian grade scales (0–10) and conceitos are kept as printed, with a one-line translator’s note so evaluators can read them.

Example: a Brazilian certidão de nascimento (1 page) + certidão de casamento (1 page), both certified and notarized = $39.90 + $35 + $15 = $89.90, delivered by email within 24–48 hours.

Questions

Portuguese Translation FAQ

Does USCIS accept your Portuguese translations?

Yes. Every translation comes with a signed Certificate of Translation Accuracy that meets 8 CFR 103.2(b)(3). If USCIS rejects it for a translation reason, we fix it free or refund you in full.

My certidão has an averbação about a divorce or name change — is it translated?

Yes. Marginal annotations are legally part of the certificate and are translated in a marked section; leaving them out is a common reason for RFEs.

Do you translate a tradução juramentada made in Brazil?

A sworn translation done in Brazil is often not accepted by USCIS because the certification is not in the US form. We re-certify or re-translate it at the same $19.95 per page.

Brazilian or European Portuguese — does it matter?

No. We translate documents from Brazil, Portugal and Portuguese-speaking Africa at the same price.

How many pages is my histórico escolar?

One side with up to 250 words is one page. A dense histórico may count as two; we confirm the count before translating and never charge more without asking.
